Borrowed a book from my local library about this ship for the 10th time not too long ago. Makes me cry everytime I read it. basically this ship was taken from the Germans during or after World War 1. The ship sank during World War Two and took some amount of people that eclipsed both the Titanic and the Lusitania.

Yes, we definitely agree, it is a tragic story.

If you are going to read just one book on the Lancastria, make it The Sinking of the Lancastria -- that book is an account of the disaster that takes you, the reader, to the decks of the ship.

I have checked that out from the library like 15 times now! I am actually planning to buy the book. I already have librarians complaining about how often I check the book out, it is just that I am going to college so I do not really have the money to buy the book yet.

I would love to get the book, but right now, I'm saving for John Maxtone-Graham new book on Titanic, & I'm trying to save money to go to MA for the Memorial. I think I'll order The Sinking of The Lancastria when everything settles.

Yay! The book came in the mail, got it for $4.95 The seller said it was "like new" but it looks brand New to me, and is a first edition. Now I am going to start reading it.

Well I finished reading the book. Here is my review for it.

I thought it was an excellent book. It made me not want to put the book down while I was reading it because it was attention grabbing. Jonathan Fenby wrote it in a way that it felt like I was there watching everything unfold as I was reading the book. There were moments that I c ould not put the book down because I wanted to know what happened next, and moments where I cried. It is a book that I would highly recommend as a must read book.
